Buses tend to operate a frequent, if erratic, service between 6am and 8pm on the more populated islands of the Caribbean, stretching to 10pm or even midnight in more developed locales. There is often limited or no service on a Sunday. The buses themselves are usually small minivans which the drivers like to pack to the gills before departure - given that whatever bus services are available are cheap (rarely more than US$3, usually closer to 50¢) they are very much used by the locals.

Taxis are plentiful throughout the Caribbean; drivers are often very knowledgeable and act as tour guides and advisors, even accompanying single women to street parties and the like (for a fee), as well as serving as chauffeurs. Sometimes the only way to identify a taxi is by checking the number plate for a designated letter or colour. Usually taxis are not metered and fares are regulated by the various island governments (although some taxi drivers may ignore the official rates and set their own, especially longer trips). Lists of sample taxi fares are available from tourist offices, but you should always agree to a rate before you start your journey. Don't be afraid to negotiate, either, as this is often customary.
