The
Caribbean's
position
near the
equator
means
that the
sun's
rays in
the
region
are very
strong -
use a
high-factor
sunblock
(SPF 15
or more)
and
apply it
liberally
at least
every
two
hours
and
after
swimming
or
exercise.
Keep sun
exposure
to a
minimum,
especially
between
the
hours of
11am and
4pm;
wear a
hat and
a shirt,
drink
plenty
of water
and make
sure
children
are well
covered
up.
Dizziness,
headache
and
nausea
are
symptoms
of
dehydration
and
should
be
treated
by lying
down in
a shaded
place
and
sipping
water or
other
hydrating
fluids.
Should
symptoms
persist,
or if
you are
suffering
from
hot, dry
(but not
sweaty)
skin -
potentially
a sign
of
heatstroke
- seek
medical
assistance
immediately.
