Saba And St. Eustatitus - Getting There

The great majority of visitors arrive by plane. Windward Islands Airways (known as Winair; tel 599/416-2255 in Saba; tel 599/318-2735 in St Eustatius) make the fifteen-minute flight to Saba from St Martin/St Maarten three times a day, usually en route from or to St Eustatius. It's a short flight that ends with the plane dropping onto one of the world's shortest runways at Juancho E. Yrausquin Airport. The round-trip costs US$120.

Statia is also served by Winair, which flies six times a day from St Martin/St Maarten, usually en route from or to Saba. It's a short flight and the round-trip costs US$90.

Except in rough weather, The Edge (tel 599/514-2640 in St Maarten), a high-speed ferry popular with day-trippers, makes the one-hour crossing to Saba's Fort Bay from the marina at Simpson Bay, St Maarten, leaving at 9am and around 4pm.

On both islands the departure tax is US$10, or US$5 if you're headed onward to another of the islands of the Netherlands Antilles.
