Saba And St. Eustatitus - Money And Costs

The official currency is the Netherlands Antilles guilder (NAf) , but the US dollar is quoted and accepted everywhere. The guilder is divided into 100 cents. Notes come in denominations of 5, 10, 25, 50, 100, 250 and 500 guilders; coins in 1, 2.5, 5, 10, 25 and 50 cents. The guilder is tied to the US dollar at a rate of US$1 to NAf1.80.

Credit cards are accepted at most hotels and restaurants. On Saba there are several banks in Windwardside including a Barclays (Mon-Fri 8.30am-3pm). St Eustatius has several banks in Oranjestad including a Barclays (Mon-Thurs 8.30am-3.30pm, Fri 8.30am-12.30pm and 2-4.30pm). Neither of the islands has ATMs.

Costs are fairly high as the great majority of food, drink and other items is imported. On Saba there is a government room tax of 5 percent, and most hotels and restaurants add a 10 to 15 percent service charge. Tipping is up to you. On St Eustatius a 7 percent service charge for hotels and 15 percent for restaurants will normally be added to your bill
